Preparation and Protection Properties of Graphene Sheets/Polypyrrole Composites

Abstract
Graphene oxide (GO) was synthesized from graphite using the Hummers method, GO was reduced by graphene sheets(RGOS), and graphene/polypyrrole composites(RGOS/PPy) was prepared by emulsion polymerization. The GO, RGOS and RGOS/PPy were characterized by Raman spectroscopy (Raman), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The measurements of mechanical properties and electrochemical behavior were carried out to evaluate the impact strength, hardness and corrosion resistance of the epoxy coatings containing RGOS/PPy. The results of the measurements of mechanical properties demonstrated that the epoxy coatings containing RGOS/PPy greatly enhanced the impact strength (267%) and hardness (24.2%). Electrochemical measurements showed that the anticorrosion properties of the epoxy resin coating with RGOS /ppy were greatly enhanced.
