Failure Analysis of Corrosion Perforation of Low Pressure Gathering Pipeline in an Oilfield

Corrosion perforation of gathering pipeline in an oilfield was analyzed by physical and chemical property tests, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The results show that the main reason of corrosion perforation was electrochemical corrosion caused by H2S and Cl- in the corrosion media inside the pipeline.
