Influence of Heat Treatment on Intergranular Corrosion and Tensile Strength of 2024 Al Alloy

    • The corrosion resistance of high-strength Al-alloys may decrease significantly in corrosive environments. After 2024 Al alloy was treated by different heat treatments and intergranular corrosion tests, the cross-section morphology observation and tensile strength tests were performed. The results showed that the corrosion resistance and tensile strength of 2024 Al alloy were inversely proportional to the heat treatment temperature and holding time. The alloy showed the best performances after the T4 heat treatment (solid solution at 493±2 ℃ plus natural aging).
