Failure Mechanism of Control Choke

Abstract
During the gas exploitation process, the pressure of high pressure underground gas should be lowered down to the allowable pressure of pipelines before it is delivered to the gas-processing center. In the circumstances of high pressure and high yielding, the damage of natural gas to the control choke is serious.Combined with the field data, wearing mechanism and use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, the failure mechanism of wellhead control choke was studied through flow field simulation, and some advise to prolong the service life of control choke was proposed. The main study mode was CAMERON CC50HP produced by Cameron International Corporation. The results showed that the primary cause of short time failure was the erosion of high pressure. It is clear that the serious consequence of erosion can not be ignored, and more attention should be paid to it.
