CORROSION PROPERTIES OF ALUMINUM-STEEL EXPLOSIVE CLADDING PLATES

    • Aluminum-steel cladding plates were manufactured by explosive welding.Their corrosion rates were measured in artificial seawater and their corrosion properties were discussed.Galvanic corrosion occurred when the samples were immersed in seawater. The corrosion rate of the flyer plate was accelerated and many pits appeared on the aluminum alloy surface. However, the base plate of steel showed a low corrosion rate due to the protection by the aluminum alloy. The corrosion rate of the cladding plate was the largest when the base plate was stainless steel. And the corrosion rates of the cladding plates became less and stable as the immersing time was prolonged.
