Techniques of Corrosion Monitoring for Surface Engineering in Oil and Natural Gas Field with H2S/CO2

    • The pipe and production facility for oil and nature gas suffer from the wide range of fluids, which may contain usually carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and water (H2O) with high concentration chloride. The majority of pipes and facilities are made from carbon steel, which has the corrosion risk depending on the composition of the fluid. Corrosion rate should be monitored and inspected to ensure the integrality of pipes and facilities, and to adjust the corrosion control measure immediately. There are a lot of corrosion monitor techniques with various advantages and limitation depending on their principle. This paper provides a review of monitoring methods available to oil and nature gas field with H2S/CO2, and their principles, benefit and limitation are introduced in order to provide some reference for designers and managers when they select monitoring methods and carry out corrosion management.
