Influence of Anaerobic Micro-organisms on Corrosion Behavior of Copper

    • The effects of marine anaerobic bacteria on the corrosion behavior of copper were investigated by mesuring the open-circuit potentials, polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results show that by morphology analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the marine microbes SRB adhering to copper were pole shape with microbending. There were biofilms with dense and translucent formation of bacteria on the surface of material. Electrochemical measurement results revealed that the control step for corrosion of copper in the culture medium for SRB in seawater was activation polarization process. The presence of micro-organism SRB decreased the open circuit potential and activation polarizability of copper. It can accelerate the corrosion progress of pure copper.
