A New Blacking Process for Stainless Steel

A black oxide film formation technology for stainless steel 304 has been developed by using electrochemical method in low temperature solution.The main factors affecting the blacking process were investigated.Results show that the concentrations of filming species have large effect on the film properties such as adhesion and wear resistance.A black film with uniform color and good adhesion can be formed by optimizing the blacking conditions of this new technology.The blacking mechanism is discussed.
