Corrosion Behavior of 45#Steel in Hydrogen Sulfide Solutions

    • In order to study the influence of hydrogen sulfide on corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement and to explorethe corrosion mechanism in hydrogen sulfide environments,45#steel was immersed in solutions containing differentconcentrations of H2S for various hours. The changes of the hardness, the thickness of the corroded layer, thethickness of the permeation layer and the thickness of the layer affected by hydrogen embrittlement were studied.Theresults show that the hardness of the specimen first increased and then decreased until it was restored to the originalhardness after the material subjected to the corrosion of hydrogen sulfide.Solution containing H2S can induce twoeffects of corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement. It was found that the effect of the H2S hydrogen embrittlement wasthe most significant after 48himmersion,and the effect of the corrosion was the most significant after 96 himmersion.
