Influence of Grain Size on Corrosion Resistant of Commonly Used Metals

    • Researches about grain size effect on the mechanical properties of materials are plenty. However, the effect of grain size on corrosion resistance of metals is not extensively and intensively studied. The relationship between corrosion resistance and grain size of several common steels, non-ferrous metals and alloys are demonstrated in this paper. The corrosion resistance of steels and aluminum are proportionally related to the grain size; the corrosion resistance of copper and magnesium are inversely related to the grain size. It was suggested that some artificial neural networks may be used predict the effect of grain size on corrosion behavior of materials.
