Selection of Insulating Device Protector for Cathodic Protection in Oil and Gas Pipeline Project

    • Failure of insulating devices (insulating joint/insulating flange) may occurr when they suffer heavy current surging. But, the parameters of heavy current surging are not defined in related codes or standards. Some codes or standards about specification of insulating joint/ insulating flange, used for cathodic protection in oil and gas pipeline project, are introduced. Other related codes or standards are referenced. Merits and drawbacks for deferent insulating joint protection devices are discussed. Characteristics of heavy current surging, suffered by insulating joint/ insulating flange, are analyzed. According to above analyses, the principle for selecting suitable insulating device protector are discussed. Several pipeline engineering projects were selected for design practice.
