Influence of Loading on Corrosion of Carbon Steel in Mortar

    • Three-point loads were applied to samples for studying the influence of stress on corrosion behaviour of carbon steel in motar. The corrosion potential, corrosion current density and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) of carbon steel were studied. In addition, the cracks on mortar surface were observed. The results showed that the effects of stress on corrosion behaviour of carbon steel in motar could be divided into two stages. During the early immersion period, the stress mainly affected the permeation of solution. Furthermore, as the solution permeated to the steel surface and made the carbon steel begin to corrosion, the stress mainly affected the strain state, which accelerated the corrosion of carbon steel in motar. As immersion time increased, the corrosion potential and corrosion current density maintained a relatively stable state. Then the corrosion potential decreased and corrosion current density increased with the increase of load magnitude.
