Experimental Investigation of Metallic Corrosion in Bio-fuels

    • Comparing with the mineral fuels, the bio-fuel is available in large amount and causes less pollution,so it is hopefully the solution to solve the energy shortage and environment pollution problems.Current researches are mainly focused on the raw materials, refinement, combustion and emission of bio-fuels,but rarely on their corrosion to metals.Experiments were carried out to study the corrosion behavior of seven common metals in bio-ethanol or bio-diesel at room temperature. Results show that corrosion stains appeared on the aluminum alloy submerged in bio-ethanol and pitting corrosion took place on carbon steel and cast steel in bio-diesel.The corrosion phenomena can be explained by existing theories of corrosion.Attention should be paid to the possible corrosion problems when using the bio-fuels.
