Influence of Surface Shot Peening Treatments on Corrosion Behavior of Wheel Steel

Abstract
Surface characteristics such as microhardness, roughness, microstructure and residual stress of the rolled railway wheel plate surfaces with different shot peening processes were tested. The salt spray corrosion test of wheel plate specimens with different surface conditions such as full-shot-peening,half-shot-peening and without shot-peening were performed. All the samples underwent uniform corrosion and the corrosion rate was the largest for the full-shot-peening specimen and similar for the other two specimens. The experimental results can be analyzed from the perspectives of the surface conditions such as surface roughness, plastic deformation and residual stress.
