CORROSION AND PROTECTION OF MAIN CABLES OF SUSPENSION BRIDGES

Suspension bridge is one of the best types of the bridges for wide rivers.As the main load bearing component,the main cables dominate the life of the whole bridge,and its effective corrosion resistance ensures the safety and durability of the suspension bridge.This article introduces the protection methods for main cables,the mechanism and factors of the corrosions on the main cables.In addition,two new materials possibly used for main cables and a new anti-corrosion method are described.
