Abstract
The thermal properties of Al-34%Mg-6%Zn alloy as a latent heat storage material were determined by the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis technique. The corrosion resistance of some structural materials, including stainless steel SS304L and carbon steel C20,for the container of the alloy over a long heat storage or release period was studied.Gravimetric analysis of mass loss(mg/cm2) and corrosion rate(mg/day) and metallographic investigation were performed for corrosion tests after 1000 thermal cycles(melting and solidification).SS304L showed more suitable compatibility with the alloy than C20 in long-term thermal storage application. The formation process and mechanism of corrosion products during thermal cycles were also discussed.
